The biggest international markets for tomatoes are the United States of America, Germany, France, United Kingdom and Poland. Combined, those 5 largest importers bought almost two-thirds (64.2%) worth of imported fresh or chilled tomatoes in 2023.
From a continental perspective, buyers located in European countries bought the highest dollar worth of imported tomatoes during 2023 with purchases valued at $7.3 billion or 63% of the global total. In second place were importers located in North America at 31.4%.
Another 4.8% of tomatoes imported worldwide was delivered to customers in Asia.
Tinier percentages arrived in Africa (0.4%), Latin America (0.3%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, then Oceania (0.03%) led by New Zealand, New Caledonia and Fiji.
