Lead is an easily worked and corrosion-resistant metal. It used to make pipes, paint, car batteries, ammunition, cable sheathing, radiation protection and in some solders. Lead containers store corrosive liquids.
The 5 biggest exporters of lead by value are South Korea, Australia, India, United Kingdom and Germany. Combined, that quintet of leading international suppliers generated over one-third (36.9%) of overall sales for exported lead during 2023.
Among continents, Asian countries sold the highest dollar worth of exported lead during 2023 with shipments valued at $3.7 billion or 40.3% of the overall total. In second place were exporters located in Europe at 36.1% while 9.4% of worldwide lead shipments originated from North America. Another 8.3% were shipped from Oceania mostly Australia.
Smaller percentages came from sellers in Africa (4.1%), then Latin America (1.9%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean.

Breaking down all lead sold on international markets into its product subcategories, the top seller was unwrought lead at 83.1% of the global total. In second place was lead waste and scrap (8.9%) trailed by then lead plates, sheets, strips, foil, powders and flakes (4.3%) ahead of miscellaneous articles made from lead (3.7%).
